Goal of the Organization:
JAGRUTHI (MEANING “AWARENESS” IN THE KANNADA LANGUAGE) IS WORKING IN FIVE TALUKAS, AND 368 VILLAGES OF BIJAPUR DISTRICT AND IS CURRENTLY PARTNERING WITH DIFFERENT LOCAL NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS. THE PROJECT WORKS FOR FEMALE SEX WORKERS, THEIR REGULAR PARTNERS, AND CLIENTS, THROUGH PEER EDUCATORS FROM THE SEX WORKER COMMUNITY, CHANGE AGENTS LIKE AUTO DRIVERS AND LODGE BOYS ETC. THE PROJECT PLAYS KEY ROLES IN EMPOWERING SEX WORKER COMMUNITIES BY CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT THAT NOT ONLY KEEPS THEM SAFE, BUT ALLOWS THEM TO GAIN GREATER CONTROL OVER THEIR LIVES.
The female sex workers in Bijapur district create an environment free of stigma and discrimination and lead a life of dignity and enjoy the civil rights that they are entitled to.
1. To prevent HIV-AIDS and STI among the sex workers
2. To improve the health and economic conditions of poor and marginalized sex workers
3. To stop bringing young girls who are below 18 years into sex work.
